Bringing Color Back

Grays and beige have taken over just about every room in the modern home. People had resorted to neutral color palettes to create a sense of calm and sophistication in their living space. But what happened to color? Where’s the self expression? Fret not, because personality is coming back and it's looking better than ever!

The Rise of Greige

First of all, what is greige? Greige is the combination of gray and beige, the two major colors of the modern color palette. Many homeowners in the early 2010’s resorted to this palette to create a sleek, modern, and sophisticated look within their homes. Even now many homes have resorted to such colors to create a sense of calm and tranquility within their space. With the hustle and bustle of the outside world, home became a place of refuge and relaxation. With the outside being overstimulating, coming inside to a nice, tranquil environment became key to many homeowners. Even within new developments, many newly built homes and apartments stuck to white walls and gray floors to create a neutral backdrop for people to personalize their new space.

A Pop Of Color

During the pandemic, we were forced to stay in our homes and stare at our white, gray, and tan walls all day, everyday. This brought forth a new trend: more. More color, more patterns, more decor. Whether it was new colorful furniture, pops of artwork on the walls, or a new wall color entirely, people began bringing color back into their homes. The younger generations especially have adopted the more maximalist style trend with aesthetics such as Cottagecore, Grandmillenial, and Neo-Victorian (Dark Academia). Accent walls, gallery walls, funky furniture, and decorative rugs are all becoming part of the post-modern home. Personality is back in our homes and it looks like it's staying for good.
